According to the official sources, those cuts and bruises on President Bush's face were caused by a mountain biking accident. The President's personal physician says, "It's been raining a lot and the topsoil is loose. You know this president. He likes to go all-out. Suffice it to say he wasn't whistling show tunes."
Apart from the non sequitor of "he wasn't whistling show tunes," that sounds like a reasonable explanation. But as Kos points out here, there hasn't been any rain in Crawford, TX for the last week.
